people were happy with the results of running without the shield after the cone filters pushed the shield too far forward blocking the air intake excessively. That was the situation I found myself in. However, if only to avoid having my filters exposed to the crap that can fly through the intake (debris, bugs, rain e.g.) I opted for trimming back the Selin elbows and fabbing a metal air guide based on the OEM one. Came out great.
