Tightening torque of connecting rod end cap bolts. 1st turn to 12-14 ft-lbs. 2nd turn to 43-48 ft-lbs.Ok, well, I went even a step further and tightened them in 10 ft-lb increments. I get to 40 ft lbs and the torque drops off to 35? WTF?! So I figure the bolts may be seating and I continue to turn. Well, guess what happens. SNAP!! Twisted the bolt right off like a sunn - uva - BITCH! Fuckers are $3 each and I aint using any of the ones I have. They have all been stressed. So I check with Mitchell and the proper torque is 28-32 ft-lbs. Haynes says 30-32 ft lbs. Whatever, its still hella less than 48! Engine rebuild progess is once-again stalled. I spent my time this weekend getting the heads all ready and pounding out those damn bolts. I placed an order for replacements which will be here wednesday at the cost of $3ea for the bolts (x12) and $.90ea (x12) for the nuts. I spoke with 1-800-NISSAN-1 about this - as a complaint based on principle. I bought the service manual from nissan, I bought all the parts for the rebuild from nissan, the service manual was wrong and now I have to pay more money for their mistake? I dont think so. So it is in the works, but it is looking like Nissan will be reimbursing me for the expense. I'll keep you all posted. :-)
