Message	You need to be able to move the pedal freely at least 1/8 to 1/4 inch before you feel resistance. If you go by RPMs the throwout bearing could potentially still rest against the clutch fingers with enough pressure to overheat and fail, but not enough to engage the clutch and drop RPMs.
