Message It wouldn't selectively kill your speedo while leaving your ODO working.

The speed sensor signal enter the gauge cluster. The cluster then (more or less) splits it up and sends it to the speedo, odomoeter, ECU (for power steering assist adjustment) and the Cruise Control module.

If you had faults on all four mechanisms (Speedo, ODO, no CC, and hard steering) your speed sensor on the trans could be the culprit. Since your Odo is working, and other mechanisms have faults, that's a pretty clear indication that the sensor and wiring to the cluster are good and you have one ore more faulty traces in your cluster that are causing the signal not to be relayed to the speedo and CC module.
