em. Your coolant system should be 100% solid before worrying about anything else, and yes low coolant could cause low/no heat. Purchase a coolant funnel like this La-Z-Link. As the car runs keep on adding coolant until it overflows into the funnel slightly. Give short bursts of throttle and watch for bubbles to start to go away. I've let me car run for 30+ minutes burping out all the bubbles, giving slight bursts of throttle watching bubbles at same time.
Also make sure the coolant line from the radiator to the reservoir is good at both ends if you can.
