Message It sounds to me like the clutch pedal assembly broke. If your son is out drifting, it's possible his clutch kicks were just too much for the assembly.

Personally, I'd start by replacing the clutch pedal assembly in the driver's side footwell and then retest clutch operation. It'd be a lot faster than dropping the transmission, and it sounds like it needs replacing, anyway.

Speaking personally, I had issues wearing out the little bushings in the clutch pedal assembly that led to a pretty annoying squeak when operating the clutch pedal, but the assembly never failed on me. But again, if your son is really kicking the crap out of that pedal, I wouldn't rule it out...
