As long as you have pressure on the Gauges with the compressor not running, you still have refrigerant in the car and things are not contaminated with air.. My read is that you just need some more refrigerant in the system. Hissing is normal in Air Conditioners.. this is the gas/Vapor being pumped around.. The amount of hissing is 'Usually Less' when the system is properly charged. Generally the Compressor will not 'Auto Run' if there is not enough 'Charge' in the system to make the Pressure Switches.. 1) What Problem are you trying to Solve? 2) What year is the Car, and does it have Manual or Auto A/C Controls?.. 3)What is the Refrigerant that your car is presently set up for. 4) have you found the Sight Glass?
