Has anyone attempted to clean the evaporator in the access provided by removing the fan speed resistor; using small brushes and a solvent ..? In 30 years w/o filtration, quite a bit of material has deposited on to the face of the evap. Not a lot of air is getting through anymore. The the evap gets cold and the discharge side TCA thermistor shuts down the compressor (r134a cars). Still resisting the total disassembly required to properly correct this problem.
