It's been about 11 years since I've sone this job on a VG, apparently I'm rusty. We are using a Gates T251 timing belt. We follow the FSM word for word but cannot get the tensioner to set at around 4mm. It's too tight after settling for 5-10mins at around 2mm. Used the new and old tensioner with same results. Set to 4mm with the vice, installed stopper bolt, removed all the slack out of the belt. Has anyone used this Gates belt before? The lines on the belt don't line up perfectlty on the ribs like I remember the OEM belt did, I could be wrong. It's been a long time. Any help is appreciated.
