I wouldn't be scared to run it. What you don't see as well is there are just as many microscopic pits. Have it coated with a ceramic dry lubricant or polished and let it eat. As long as it's not too tight, which that shouldn't be an issue, and there aren't any sharp edges, those pits will eventually fill with engine oil impurities. Those cam races don't see critical stresses like in a crank main or rod. Reason you don't need to run bearings. There pretty forging as long as there oiled.
