I have a 1994 NA MT slicktop with the 16-bit ECU. I always had to actually have the car running to the ECU through the consult port. If it matters, I've been using NDS on a windows surface tablet using a PLMS cable purchased from COZ. In preparation for a TT swap, I sent a spare 8-bit NA/MT off to COZ to get Nistune installed. I received it back last week, installed it just to check things out, and I found that both NDS and Nistune could connect to it through consult with the key in the "run" position, but without actually starting the motor. Is there an inherent difference between the 8 and 16-bit ECUs that would explain this difference in behavior, or is my 16-bit ECU damaged and not functioning properly?
