Not sure if you've seen the O-ring in the groove, but it's pretty lackluster in how it fits in the spot. It's like running chicken string through a grand canyon. I want it to expand. But really, it matters not. After the first heat cycle the oil will wash both sides of the O-ring and the petroleum jelly will cease to exist. At least that's my experience over the past handful of years. I actually didn't use petroleum jelly though. I used something different. I just said it because I was trying to avoid the uproar of people trying to tell me it will ruin the rubber, but I guess I still got some uproar. Really what I'm looking for here is info pertaining directly to my question. It has worked anecdotally for me, and it hasn't worked anecdotally for you, but I wasn't looking for critics of my process, nor am I looking to criticize anyone else's.
