I meant to add the disclaimer to my post that it's only been a year since I completed the conversion, so I can't comment regarding longevity yet. Regarding vacuum, you won't get MORE vacuum necessarily (technically yes, but nothing you'll be able to discern from a standard manifold gage) by running the pump longer, you just want to give the system enough time to boil off residual moisture. If the needed doesn't peg to -30mmhg within a few minutes you've likely got a leak. After pressure testing I pumped mine down for a few hours, let it sit overnight, verified again; and then filled the system with R134a. I've read to pump it for as little as 30 minutes, and as much as 24 hours. I'm NOT an expert but consider myself a very competent DIYer. So take my comments at face value.
