| My heater stopped working a few months ago. The actuator that opens the valve that allows coolant to flow stopped working. I disconnected the line attached to the flap and manually opened the valve and got heat again. I thought the gears inside might've broken but they are all intact including in my spare one. Does anybody know a way to test these outside of the car? Would love to see it working with my spare unit before I get it all back together. 
Here's a shot of the heater box. Going to be fun cleaning this up.
 Another shot after taking the heater core out. You can see the pipes going to the firewall were cut from when the heater core was replaced without a dash pull. I'm going to replace it again at this time the right way with new parts.
