I've never heard of that, and I suspect it was a joke. A hole would certainly keep the oil flowing--right out of the pan and all over the ground. Maybe someone will correct me. In any case, once you remove the dent you should be okay, assuming it wasn't driven hard on low oil pressure and scuffed a ring or a journal bearing. There's really nothing that will dent the pan short of running over something big. It was most likely sitting on the pan while out of the car. This is common with JDM engines or sketchy mechanics.
