Subject	Possibly dumb question, but alternator belt won't come loose

Message	So I'm replacing the engine fan, got the new one installed, and I hadn't noticed that the alternator belt came halfway off the track, so I tried to loosen the tension by loosening the bolts and the adjuster bolt on the alternator, but even despite the adjuster bolt almost being all the way out the tension on the belt remains exactly the same as before. Obviously there's something I'm missing, but I can't figure out what, despite my searching around. If anyone has advice or insight I'd appreciate it.
