Subject	Can someone explain this part to me?

Message	So I've noticed this part on my car ever since I bought it used many years ago but never bothered to figure out what this is or what it does until now. It was bent 90 degrees back and up toward the engine. Or maybe it wasn't bent and that is by design, I don't know lol. Based off the flaking paint right at that crease I'm assuming it should be flat(or one plane of metal). But I took it off and flattened it to see if that is how it should have been, but then that puts it really close/almost rubbing the tie rod. Does someone have a picture of what it should look like or can explain anything about it? It is only on the front passenger side. 93 300zx TT, Automatic.
