That would account for the change in temp you feel. I'm not 100% sure where the switch picks up on the throttle travel, but it will shut off the A/C clutch to reduce power drain on the engine during heavy (full throttle maybe?) acceleration.
Isn't there a sensor for the auto climate control in the ceiling of the interior, by the map lights? I think there is a small circulating fan in there (not sure if this is what you were referring to in the original post).
