If the standoff of the idler is not perfectly perpendicular to the pulley it can cause this. Otherwise, check the crank washers as mentioned above and make sure the exhaust cam gears are on the correct direction (I think with the BDE they have markings on them so it should be hard to mess up, but worth mention)
