My completely stock 1993 300ZX TT with 55k original miles (I'm the second owner, bought it in 1995) is now intermittently blowing one of the fusible links, shutting down the car completely, usually in traffic, requiring a tow home. The link in question is labeled on the cover as FL30A, IGN SKID CONT. The wiring diagrams show this fuse supplies the current from the battery to the ignition coil packs, and a TON of other stuff (including ABS). This isn't a dead short, because I can replace the link, and restart the car. However the car may run fine for awhile, (drove a round trip from OC to San Diego) before the link blows again, or it may blow the link within a few feet of car movement (as it did the last time when I limped it to a parking lot before it blew again). And I'm not sure if this is an important detail or not, but all three times the fuse has blown, it was always at low speed, under 20 mph, in 1st or 2nd gear. The blue wire fusible link in the same row (labeled "BAT) is intact and making obvious connection, but has a nick in the insulation. I found that suspicious, but since the connection is being made, I've concluded this isn't an issue. I'm now afraid to drive the car anywhere, for fear of where it may leave me stranded next, so I want to positively find the source of this problem and fix it, without guessing or more trial and error, as my errors are having serious ramifications. Since this fuse supplies so many things, and there is nothing I can see visually wrong without starting to remove things, I'm not sure where to begin. Looking for ideas from anyone who may have had this issue, (remember intermittent, not a dead short, the fuse doesn't blow immediately or due to any set of circumstances that can be recreated reliably) or could recommend a good Z-car specialist in the Irvine,CA area who could help me out.
