if you don't have the overflow hose hooked up to a tank that's capable of holding excess coolant. In a properly working system, as the coolant warms up, it expands and pushes out air through the overflow hose and into the tank. When the engine is off and the coolant cools down, it contracts and pulls coolant from the tank back into the radiator. Depending upon how much air was in the system to begin with will determine how many hot/cold cycles will be needed to get all of the air out of the system. Note you will need to ensure the overflow tank doesn't become empty and check if you need to add coolant to it after each cycle for this procedure to work.
