Message	cap is designed to regulate pressure and to allow outflow in an over pressure situation. You’ve defeated that capability by using the cap. Just do what they did in the old days - attach a hose to the nipple and let it hang down, so fluid can drain. Of course, this means checking the fluid levels every so often but at least your radiator won’t bust a seem.
