Can't say I've seen this specific issue, only thing similar I've encountered was a startup problem due to a vacuum leak. Zed would crank and do the initial 'vroom' without problem, but then stumble and die after twenty seconds. This makes sense as the ECU runs fixed injector pulse-width at cranking/startup, so vacuum leaks don't affect it until the MAF kicks in. Seems like your problem is quite different from this though.
How are your O2 sensors and fuel trims? Does resetting the ECU change anything? How does it do with the MAF unplugged? (it should go into MAF fail-safe mode and run somewhat smoothly up to 2500rpm).
