You can use a test light or meter and check that there is 12V at the alternator, all white wires should be 12V. Black wire should be ground. White with red stripe is for 'charge' indicator light. I believe it's grounded when the unit is not charging. Will cause other lights to light because it's the ground for the bulb check relay also (they all go off when the engine starts running and alt starts charging).
