You shouldn't have to. Assuming you've got the adapter harness (mine through Crutchfield had the speaker pre-amp gain adjuster pre-spliced in - installed mine a few months ago), you should just wire up the ground to go through the harness. Of course, ground is ground, so you have that flexibility to do it how you like, but I prefer to keep it as clean as I can. Just remember to connect the amp-on wire also. I missed that on the first try, since I had yet to deal with powered speakers before.
