Message As long are youre using a fused distribution block and not drawing tons of power you should be fine.

Also, there isnt any issue sending the 12V signal through the coil to ground. It functions as any other circuit would, internal resistance of the coil will keep it from acting as a short. Standard SPDT auto relays have enough internal resistance to only draw ~25 mA on the signal side
