That confirms what I thought: to really test the system I've got to buy at least a ($60 Harbor Freight) A/C R134A Manifold Gauge Set. Without it I have no way of vacuum checking the entire system. The alternative is pressure testing the entire system with air (and humidity), but for that I need to somehow procure all the right couplings -- I've got an air compressor, but no vacuum pump. If someone were to clarify the only way to go is using a vacuum pump, well then there goes another $100 in 1-time troubleshooting equipment. Any thoughts?
