Message This is an issue of concern for our hobby. The '98 spec transmission is essentially unfixable. Being a JDM item; no parts book exists in the US. Certainly in Japan or maybe Australia parts could be found, but accessing those markets is not easy. Issues with the input shaft bearing and "soft" gears (supposedly 4th and 5th) will need eventually need addressing.

Nissan is beginning to discontinue replacement parts for the '89 through '97 transmission. 5th/reverse synchros are already obsolete. Seals, bearings and 1-4 brass rings are still available. Don't know about gears or sliders or shafts.

Pretty soon we'll be looking at adapting Tremec T-5s or T-56s if we want to keep on using the car. A member from NC has posted a T-56 successful adaptation but it requires quite a bit of parts and expense. The cost of this adaptation compares favorably with a worn out car or comes up to 1/2 of the market value of a "nice" Z32 example.
