Well, turns out you were absolutely correct. The car is at my parents' house near my work, so I went to do some more testing of the car over my lunch break. My dad strolled out while I was doing something, sat in the car, sprayed a bunch of contact cleaner into the key hole, and the car fires up once again with no issue. Not sure if it's been that all along or just a part of the issue combined with something I replaced, but damn I'm glad it's working once again without the ghetto wired start. I guess it certainly isn't a bad thing for everyone to do on their car because the clear fluid was black and grey as it was running out of the tumbler. No doubt it cleaned out a bunch of crap accumulated in there over the 26 years it's been on the road...
