was a problem, that slicks would amplify it. Because it's the traction, and then loss of traction (presumably due to suspension issues), and then the cycle starts over again, that causes wheel hop. Unless the slicks prevent the loss of traction, when traction is lost it will be with the wheels even farther from the center of the wheel arch and then the wheel hop would be amplified over street tires.
