Message E-brake would not have an impact. The OEM e-brake system is a hub/shoe setup, doesn't use the caliper pads.

Sounds like to me like the rear pistons are siezed, no long retracting when the brake pedal is released (a typical issue if fairly old). Either rebuild the caliper pistons and seals or just get a new or rebuilt full caliper set. Were all the pads on both sets of wheels worn down the same amount? Inner pads vs outer pads?

Given you've noticed the rear calipers were pretty warm - fixing this issue should nicely improve car performance. Just coasting up to a stop will feel great!
