Message But yes you are understanding correctly. It really doesn't take a ton of heat though. If you warp, bend, or melt something your using way to much heat or leaving it focused on the area for too long. Your actually better trying to heat just the base of the stud as it will heat up the direct area it's contacted too. It's super simple to do though just don't go crazy with the heat. Also if your stud broke flush I would come up with a way to pull it from the housing rather than heat till it falls out.
