Start by replacing the spark plugs with a fresh set. Then pull the coil and watch it fire to ground. It has been my experience with this 20+ year old car that many of its problems are contact related. The spark coils fire by commands from the ECU via the PTU. Remove the unit and the sub harness if you have an earlier car. Clean everything fastidiously well. Use solvents, files and dielectric grease and make sure all sockets squeeze the pins. If you can verify spark is constant, then look the injectors.
