Message The problem is that the stud has some sort of design where the top part is thicker and flat and the part where the actual nut goes on is threaded. The top part also has vertical grooves where it isn't flat that lock into vertical grooves in the tension rod. If I got a new bolt and nut I'd have to drill through that and just have a thicker, stronger bolt.

To be honest I've never heard of using stock studs on after market rods either, but it's what I read on Z32 wiki so I'm not sure how common it can be.

As far as I understand, however, those two bolts are just meant to keep the tension rod securely in place to the front lower control arm, so as long as I drill it well and use a high grade bolt and nut that locks it very tightly there shouldn't be a problem.
