After cleaning the electric connector fill the connector with dielectric grease and press closed. In manual there are procedures to check the PS system operation. Before that is the fluid reservoir full? Is the correct fluid in the PS system? Per manual only use PS fluid ATF Mercon/Dexron fluid, no generic PS fluid. Same fluid as used in the auto tranny. Be careful what series Mercon/Dexron is used. If you do not know the history of what fluid is in there I would replace it 100%, or at least dilute it by sucking out as much as possible from reservoir and filling with correct fluid. Drive car with turns and repeat drain and fill several times. Here is pg 38 from the PS section of the manual to check the PS solenoid. Also see Pg 40 and 42 and others. [ http://300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=st&dir=&config=&refresh=&slide=38&cycle=off&scale=0&design=default&total=98 ] Look underneath the car and see if the steering rack boots are broken (they dry up and crack with time and/or deteriorate with leaking fluid). If they are they need to be replaced AFTER any leaks are fixed. Can be done without a wheel alignment if you count turns removing and replacing the tie rod ends, done it, use a puller to separate the tie rod joint, not a pickle fork separator that will kill the grease seal. I have used replacement boot kit available at AutoZone - they are decent quality, but you can use OEM from Nissan for more $$ if that suits you? If fluid is leaking from the piston shaft seal and are small (subjective definition) I have had luck with using Lucas Power Steering sealer (12 oz +/- about $10 at Walmart, best price). Remove as much fluid from reservoir as possible with a turkey baster (or?) then fill with Lucas and top off with ATF noted above to cold fill mark. The Lucas will also reduce (remove) hard spots in steering, etc. Test car over a week or so and go from there. Leaks do not stop instantaneously.
