Just did mine...if you remove the motor/antenna assembly from the car, you can get the mast out without removing the nut (the nut only needs to come off if you're trying to pull the mast UP all the way through the nut, if you push it DOWN the nut doesn't need to come off). I also took the motor off and dumped out all the metal filings etc that accumulated in there, regreased all the gears etc. If you leave the motor off until the end you can feed the new plastic strip in all the way by hand.
