Not so fast... Nissan uses 4-wire MAFs, like Ford does. They have a power and ground wire, which are probably larger gauge wire, and then a signal and a signal ground wire. The signal and signal ground wires go to pins 26 and 27 on the ECU. Not sure which is which at the moment, but it hardly matters. The two wires going to the PCM have a shield around them. This shield is grounded. It's like a tin foil material, and it keeps electrical noise out of the MAF signal wire and signal ground wire. If your MAF signal wire inside shorts to that foil covering, it's a short to ground, which sounds like that's what has happened. You can run a new wire like you did. Ford didn't use a shielded cable for their MAF signal wires. But Nissan did for some reason. Perhaps its because of so much electronics used in these compact cars. Not saying you have to shield this wire, just pointing out that Nissan thought to do so. In fact, they shielded all sorts of wiring on these cars, not just the MAF. But the MAF is the most important sensor in the car.
