Message Unless it's cost prohibitive, I'd start with the fluid change.

Once you start jacking with your clutch pedal adjustment, you're opening a whole other can of worms!

Before changing it, I'd get under the car and watch the piston action on the slave cylinder when someone else fully depressed the pedal. If the travel is too short, could be air trapped in the hydraulic lines (or the seals are going out on one or both cylinders).
