Message from personal experience it is easier to just have the machine shop to check them and do the honing since that is what they do many time a day. It is not that it is hard or that you can't do it, it simply it is what they do!

I would advise get the engine hot tanked with all of you passages cleaned, while you are in there boring your water passage so that you get better cooling to cylinder #6. There is a write up on how to do this and it is not had but more less time consuming.

Good luck and if nothing else you earn the enter working of your engine. For the thousand that people throw to have there engines built and most don't last 5 years, and few others that last more than 10 years why not.

You can build it to a stage 6 for about a tenth of the price!!!!
