on the timing cover. If you don't see it there, it wasn't replaced by a shop. Most backyard mechanics wont use the sticker because they know they did it, and usually have another source for records. The best way you may be able to visually tell is by the idlers, the bearing seals will darken over time, but when they're new they're bright (usually orange, I have seen some green ones) You could also look for tell tale signs of RTV, if there is any blue RTV (used most commonly for cooling items) someone has worked in the area.
