because you are completing the circuit to ground. The B/R wire is the common power supply to all the solenoids (all the time), the other wires go to ground via the ecu (when triggered). If you put a test lamp between the G/B and ground you are replicating the ecu trigger, which would energize the solenoid and light the test lamp
