Subject	?, tranny out of the car...what is the best way to test it

Message	i need to make sure that my tranny is good before i put it back in. i can push and pull the shifter link in and out and it sounds like it goes into gear, but...i want to make sure all gears are ok, and not just reverse. is there a way to test the tranny with it out of the car on a work bench? please advise.
