Message Let's be clear. Your 91 uses R12, which is no longer made, and increasingly difficult to find.

R134a is the replacement for it, and can be used with the OEM compressor.

You first need to fix your leaks, or this task is pointless. This is done with a vacuum pump rented from the auto store, and seeing if you can hold pressure for 30 minutes. This will likely involve replacing seals. Easier/better to do them all at once, IMO. You can get a complete pack for $10-12.

If you don't want to or haven't done the R134a conversion, you do have the option to use Enviro-Freeze or Enviro-Safe, which is an R12 alternative that is kind of a gray area. You will also need to use the oil they recommend. This solution gets as cold as R12, isn't harmful to the ozone, has larger molecules that make it tougher to leak, and has a higher flame point than R12 and R134a.

If you want to do the R134a conversion, I'm pretty sure you need to get to get the correct oil. You need a high side fitting for filling it up, and you need R134A.

You may also need to replace your drier if its been exposed to atmosphere for a while, or possibly if doing the conversion.
