Back to the topic, I personally wouldn't think you bent a rod hydrolocking against the starter. It would still be worthwhile (and easy) to check the piston travel while the heads are off.
My engine overheated (Previous owner...) and blew the HG. The heads were warped ~0.016 so I had them decked/line honed, the block was <0.0015 so there is a good chance (great chance even) that your block is fine.
