Message The engine itself only has two mounts, if you pull the transmission out the engine will be able to rock forward/rearward. Without external support it will be held in place mainly by the radiator hoses/intake hoses.

When I did my clutch I used a pair of ratcheting tie downs. One for the front, one for the rear, looped through the upper plenum in an 'X' pattern to stabilize the engine. (That being, front PS looped through plenum to front DS, mirrored on the back)

It doesn't take a lot of force to keep the engine stable, so don't go cranking down on the straps. Just a little bit of tension and it will be fine.
