First off as some of you already know I am probably the least qualified person to be messing with such a complicated car. Having said that, I'm gonna do it anyway hopefully without messing anything major up. Questions: 1. I changed the cam seals and read in a few other forums that it was a good idea to put a little bit of silicone around the end caps where the seal sits to help reduce chances of leaks. Then I read the tech section on here and it said nothing about silicone and it actually said to rub motor oil on them inside and out. I didn't put any oil on the inside of the cam seals either. Has anybody done it the way I did it and if so how did it work out. 2. I upgraded to 3" downpipes and was wondering if the engine will drop in with the downpipes attached, or will I have to remove them and then put them on after engine is in? (I've heard taking them off or putting them on after the engine is in is a pain in the ass) 3. I also removed cams to replace lifters. After replacing cams and cam sprockets I noticed that the markings on the cam sprockets and on the metal plates are off by quite a bit. Will I be able to turn each individual cam far enough to align the markings without messing anything up? 4. I replaced the Tensioner and after replacing it I noticed that when you are bolting it to the block, 2 of the tensioner bolt holes are oblong in shape and you are able to move it side to side. Should i turn it all the way to the right or left, center and then tighten it?Advise: Ok so replaced as many things as i could think of on the engine that would be hard to replace after engine was in but im sure im missing some stuff. I was hoping some of you might be able to think of somethings i overlooked. I would also appreciate any tips that would make the process of dropping the engine in less of a head ache. I don't want to drop the engine in and then be like damn i can't tighten that bolt or replace that part unless i pull the engine again. Also engine was rebuilt about 20-25,000 miles agao. Thanks in advance for any help. Parts replaced so far: 1. Tensioner 2. water pump/gasket 3. cam seals 4. lifters 5. Thermostat 6. water outlet hoses 7. heater core hoses 8. timing belt 9. Long Radiator hose (L) 10. PCV valves 11. Valve cover gaskets 11. Motor mounts 12. Tranny Mount 13. Fuel Filter 14. TT Fuel Pump & Assembly 15. upper plenum gasket 16. accordion pipes 17.
