Message Well problems new to me!

First off I'm Robert and I own a 1990 Nissan 300zx N/A (I know, no turbo!). It has 53,000 miles on it. First thing I did was have the timing belt changed by a mechanic I trusted. He's done good work on Z31's before.

Well, after I picked it up I noticed a "whirring" coming from the engine... That was new. He said that he too noticed it but thought everything was ok, that the new belt and parts needed to "settle" in. I trusted that but almost 400 miles later it's still here. So I did research and found out my t-belt is too tight. So, I need to go in and adjust the tension.

So, my question is... When I go in to adjust the tension, do I still need to set everything at TDC? Or can I just adjust the tensioner.... Secondly, how would I go about this? I have a FSM, but I'm not exactly sure about the stopper bolt, etc. I just don't want to mess anything up which is why I outsourced the t-belt.

I am new to Z32s but not Z-cars. I have owned numerous Z31s and a couple 280s. I'm also not new to wrenching on my rides... I mean, I swapped one of my Z31s from an auto to a manual! I'm just new to messing with timing belts.
