Is it "one click" or a "clicking". My first guess for a click when applying the brakes would be a loose caliper bolt. If a caliper bolt is loose, it can shift and make one "click" when you apply the brakes. If it is a "clicking" not a "click", are the rotors warped? This can cause a repetitive "clicking" sound from the pads shifting back and forth. You can apply a small amount of high temp brake grease to the pad slides and back of pad/shims (not on the pad surface) if they are making noise. Other possible causes: Are any of the brake pad shims broken, out of place on the pads, or missing? Are all the lug nuts tight? CV joints make a clicking sound when they go bad, but usually when you are turning. Look at all the rubber bushings on the control arms and suspension, there may be metal on metal contact of suspension parts because of a bad bushing. Is it a "click" and not a "clunk", if it is a "clunk" it could be the differential gears have too much play, or the round rubber sub frame bushings have gone bad. If you haven't done this already, have someone walk alongside the car while you duplicate the noise to make sure it is really coming from the LR wheel. If all else fails, check for something loose inside the hatch, under the carpet, in the fender well, etc.
"Well, going "XX" mph faster in "XX" amount of time doesn't mean anything to me, I would rather have a 300ZX than any other car on the entire planet. Which brings to mind my favorite Z story...I had just purchased my first pearl yellow 1990 300ZX, was driving it home from the dealership, and had stopped at an intersection. Two really hot girls were about to cross the street and had obviously never seen a Z32, the one pointed and exclaimed with great excitement "LOOK AT THAT CAR!" The other girl instantly stared and dropped a full soda on the ground where it exploded on her feet. She never even looked down when the pop exploded, and they never did cross the street because the car looked so cool the world around them disappeared I guess, and they couldn't stop staring...so I drove on. That is what happens when you drive a Z, the world disappears around you and it is just you and the car." |
