recommend the stiff drink. As Barry mentioned do a pressure check on your coolant system with a little twist. Drain your oil then place another clean catch pan underneath the drain plug. Leave the drain plug out, top off the radiator with distiller water/coolant, and then pressurize the coolant system to the max pressure your radiator cap is rated for. If there is a head gasket issue or cracked head the water will go into the oil pan and then drain out the pan drain hole into the clean pan. If the pressure bleeds off the tester and there is no water in the catch pan you are probably ok but your description sounds like a damage HG or cracked head. On your rebuild did you have your block and/or heads milled? Also which head gasket set did you use?
