Mounted to the surface of the evaporator box is a device with cooling fins that sits on the intake side of the coil. It is the fan speed amplifier or therabouts. I have no clue why it needs cooling but.., it is mounted through quite a large hole. When removed it provides ample access to the dirty side of the coil box. It is unlikely that the grease/lint seal on the 20% of the coil surface could be cleaned effectively w/o removing and splitting the box. Non-the-less some improvement can be had by vacuuming (a small suction tube will have to be concocted to fit in there) and perhaps spraying a degreaser and hoping for the best.
